Progress During May 2008

  • Base 5 has been poured.
  • The vertical parts of the retaining walls are only filled to a height of about 1m. This reduces the risk of them falling over. As strong as the mortar joins and 10N block are, the concrete weighs 2.2 tonnes per cubic meter.
  • Chris removing the shuttering.
  • The basement is starting to look more like a basement then a hole in the ground.
  • Boards to protect the sewer.
  • Bex comes to inspect.
  • Chris cutting one of many blocks.
  • Griding the anchor bolts out. These held the shuttering in place during the concrete pour.
  • Without a long ruler, Chris did his best.
  • The composition of the retaining walls. From left to right - 10N 100mm block; reinforced concrete; radon barrier; foamglas (2x 40mm boards); 75mm 3.5N block; filler materials.
