Progress During May 2009

  • Panoramic of the basement excavation taken from the stairs.
  • Not that I knew it at the time but these were the last moments of life for my trusty breaker. This must be the toughest tool I've ever owned. It broke through 120 tonnes of rock before the clutch and motor gave up. RIP Makita HR3850K.
  • It doesn't look much like a bathroom at the moment.
  • This was my nemesis for a while. I spent hours smashing though it. A strip foundation for a 5ft wall. The top layer of rebar was cut out before this photo was taken. I'm not a structural engineer but think that a 2 foot deep strip foundation with 14 lateral 12mm bars seems a little excessive for what was a garden wall!
